YouTuber Conor McGilligan has suggested he would happily see Leeds United sign Ben Brereton Diaz in the final days of this summer’s window – but doubts he would command a place in the starting XI at Elland Road.

In the rumour mill throughout the summer, and even still as the transfer window comes toward an end, the Whites have been linked with a number of different strikers.

Indeed, they have been named (via 90min) as one of many teams Premier League teams interested in the Blackburn Rovers forward – although Everton seem to be leading the race for his signature.

Should that deal not come to pass, Leeds may well opt to pounce and bring him to Elland Road instead. While talking about that possibility on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan said he would welcome the signing – even though he doesn’t believe the Chilean would be a starter.

He explained: “I wouldn’t say no to Ben Brereton-Diaz at all.

“Reason being is because Ben Brereton Diaz will come into this Leeds United setup and he won’t expect to start week-in, week-out.

“He knows he will have to earn that place. And I think once again, stylistically, he’s got a lot of attributes that would fit this system. So yeah, it’d be an interesting one to say the least.”

TIF Thoughts on Ben Brereton Diaz and Leeds…

In fairness to McGilligan, it’s not as if Leeds don’t have plenty of options in that part of the pitch already. Indeed, the likes of Patrick Bamford, Rodrigo, Dan James, Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood can all play up top.

On top of that, Rodrigo is in fine form at the moment – having scored four goals in his first three league games of the season – and so it would be hard for Jesse Marsch to drop him.

Even so, Brereton Diaz would bring plenty of goalscoring quality to the team, too. He proved this last season as he netted 22 times in the Championship for Blackburn.

With all that in mind, should the striker end up at Leeds, it will certainly be interesting to see how he fits into Marsch’s plans.
