Journalist and YouTuber Conor McGilligan has been left baffled by complaints coming out of Wolves about their lack of substitute options against Leeds United.
After the match, the Wolves manager didn’t seem happy with his options on the bench, as amid injuries to players such as Nelson Semedo, Joao Moutinho, Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez, he only opted to make a substitute in the 85th minute (via Express and Star).
Lage said: “We are unlucky with the three injuries, with Raul, Joao and Adama.
“Imagine these three players on the bench. But even that is not enough. We know that and we’ve talked about it.”
With that in mind, he took to Twitter to call the complaints from Wolves peculiar, writing: “Strange how Wolves were complaining about their bench, when we brought 3 kids on.
“Coady, Boly? One of their youngsters to come on, maybe? Odd.”

TIF thoughts on Leeds and Wolves…
For Wolves, Boly and Coady were indeed the only experienced options among the substitutes – the seven other subs only had five Premier League appearances between them going into the game (via Express and Star).
However, McGilligan is right to point out that Leeds have managed to avoid a dependency on new signings by promoting top talent from within. Indeed, Gelhardt, Greenwood and Summerville all recently signed new contracts with the Whites and look ready to make a key impact in the new Premier League season.
Perhaps Wolves could learn a lesson from that approach.
