Journalist Beren Cross has said that youngster Cody Drameh could be set for an ‘opening’ in the Leeds United first team next week.

The right-back spent the second half of last season out on loan in the Championship and impressed with Cardiff City, but now seems set to stay with the Whites and fight for a position in the senior setup.

However, Jesse Marsch has new signing Rasmus Kristensen and the experienced heads of Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas as options in that position, so it won’t be ready for Drameh to claim a regular spot at full-back.

Even so, Cross has claimed in a tweet that while there are doubts over those two Leeds players at the moment, that could afford the 20-year-old a ‘sliver’ of a chance at breaking into the team for the upcoming EFL Cup match against Barnsley.

The journalist said: “Right-back is one of the deepest positions on the field for Leeds now. While Kristensen’s getting his feet under the table and Ayling is fighting back from injury, Drameh has a sliver of an opening. Could be a big audition for him next week.”

TIF Thoughts on Cody Drameh and Leeds United…

Adding to his tweet in a recent article for LeedsLive, Cross elaborated on his opinion, explaining that after Drameh impressed in the Premier League 2 draw with Norwich City, the defender can show his quality at a higher level if Marsch plays him against Barnsley next week.

Fellow right-back Kristensen struggled in the 2-2 draw with Southampton last time out – picking up a SofaScore match rating of just 6.1 – and so he is clearly still adjusting to life in England.

Drameh, on the other hand, has already gained decent experience in the Premier League and Championship despite his young age, so may be able to hit the ground running when pushed into the first team. Although, he hasn’t featured for Leeds since last December.

It may only be a ‘sliver of an opening’, but if the youngster can take it, he could give his career a big boost.
