Journalist Beren Cross has said that Jesse Marsch will have been ‘pulling his hair out’ as Leeds United conceded two goals in their pre-season friendly win.

The Whites stepped up their preparations for the upcoming Premier League season with a recent match against Cagliari. Rodrigo netted a hat-trick, Patrick Bamford claimed a double and Robin Koch also scored as Marsch’s men came away with a 6-2 win.

However, despite leading by three goals at one stage, their Italian opponents struck twice in the space of just two minutes to put themselves within touching distance of a stunning comeback.

When discussing the outcome of the match, Cross claimed that those ‘moments of madness’ would have been rather concerning for the team’s head coach, despite Leeds going on to win comfortably.

Indeed, he wrote on LeedsLive: “A couple of moments of madness.

“Marsch will have been pulling his hair out when Cagliari scored two goals in quick succession in the second half.”

TIF Thoughts on Leeds…

The goals don’t make for great viewing, as both Gianluca Lapadula and Zito Luvumbo charged through the defence essentially unchallenged before finding the back of the net for their strikes.

Leeds’ defence is something Marsch will likely want to tighten up this season. Last term, only relegated Norwich City conceded more goals than Leeds’ 79 in the league, with even Burnley and Watford – who also went down – having better defensive records.

Of course, the most important thing will be to win games, so the 6-2 victory will leave the club feeling largely satisfied. Despite that though, conceding two goals in two minutes is certainly something to be wary of.
