Journalist James Marshment has said he will be ‘hugely upset’ if Leeds United decide to sell Mateusz Klich and admitted he would ‘100%’ keep him at the club.

The 32-year-old Polish international joined Leeds back in 2017 from FC Twente before being sent back to the Eredivisie in January 2018 with FC Utrecht.

He returned to Elland Road and played a leading role in the club’s return to the Premier League playing in all but one of the second-tier games scoring 16 goals and providing 13 assists over two seasons.

He was then directly involved in nine goals as the Whites exceeded all expectations in their first year back in the top flight and was one of Jesse Marsch’s most used players when the American arrived midway through last season.

However, reports from his homeland have now emerged claiming the 40-cap Poland is ‘determined’ to leave Yorkshire due to concerns over the game time he may be offered this term with the World Cup firmly in his mind.

That idea hasn’t sat well with Marshment who took to Twitter to post:

TIF Thoughts on Klich and Leeds United…

Is Klich good enough to play for Leeds still?

Yes

Yes

No

No

With Kalvin Phillips departing, Marsch has invested heavily in his midfield with Marc Roca, Darko Gyabi and Tyler Adams all arriving as well as the more attack-minded Brenden Aaronson.

As a result Klich is seemingly intent on a return to Holland with a potential loan deal mooted with FC Utrecht a ‘very possible direction’.

That is the club at where he spent time on loan after signing for Leeds and it could now be where he decides to set off for.

Considering his age, with two years left on his Leeds contract, now does seem like the opportune time for the club to say their goodbyes no matter how heartfelt Marshment’s might be.

Not a question of anybody at Leeds wanting him to go. This is has decision as he deems it the only way to have one last chance at a World Cup. Simples. Good luck Mateusz and thanks for everything
