Leeds United: Joe Wainman urges Whites to sign Martin Terrier this summer

YouTuber Joe Wainman has claimed that his preferred target for Leeds United to sign this summer would be French forward Martin Terrier.

According to L’Equipe, Leeds are keen on signing Terrier in this summer transfer window, but his current side Rennes require £34m to even open talks with the player, who impressed for them last season.

Terrier was in inspired goalscoring form last term, as he found the back of the net 21 times in 37 Ligue 1 games, and he currently has a contract with the club that will last until 2025, so Rennes’ asking price for him could be a significant one.

Although Leeds have been heavily linked with Terrier this summer, Wainman spoke on the JustJoe Football Show and claimed that he is concerned that the French forward only has one season of proving that he can score goals under his belt.

Wainman said: “He had a great season last season. Not only that, only two players in Europe’s top five divisions scored 10+ goals from inside the box and 5+ goals from outside of the box last season.

“Those two people were Terrier and Kevin De Bruyne. So it shows you just how profitable that season was – he’s got more [goals] than Messi and Neymar combined, he’s the third-highest scorer in Ligue 1.

“That’s why Martin Terrier would be my favourite. My only concern is obviously it’s one season – we don’t want to have a striker come in and it not work, and him not adjust to the Premier League. And, he will be expensive.”

TIF Thoughts on Wainman’s comments…

Terrier, who has been called a ‘high-level’ attacker, was in remarkable form last season in Ligue 1, he was the joint third-highest scorer with 21, so it would be a huge signing for Leeds if they could get him in the door this summer.

However, because of his current contract at Rennes and him still being just 25 years old, he could prove to be out of Leeds’ price range and may opt for a move elsewhere to a side playing in European competition.

So even though the Whites have been linked with him, it may take a significant fee to get a deal across the line, and with just one impressive goalscoring season, we agree with Wainman that it could be a risky move for Jesse Marsch.
