Leeds United supporter and YouTuber Conor McGilligan has tweeted about the supposed reaction to reports suggesting could move for Ollie Watkins.

It appears rather obvious that Leeds and Jesse Marsch could do with bringing in at least one new striker this summer given that when Patrick Bamford was forced off on the weekend, it was back to last season’s usual plan, with natural winger Daniel James being deployed through the middle.

As things stand, Marsch can call upon Joe Gelhardt to play as the main striker, though he is also injured – and while Transfermarkt classes Sam Greenwood as a centre-forward, he played slightly deeper during the end of last season and also played as an attacking midfielder against Wolves on the opening day of this campaign.

And amid their lack of options, McGilligan can’t understand why some Leeds fans are seemingly not impressed or excited by links to England international Ollie Watkins as he tweeted: “Mind-boggling, don’t understand where some fans genuinely think we are. Adams not on our level, apparently. Watkins not on our level, apparently.”

TIF Thoughts on Leeds’ interest in Watkins…

Despite replacing Bamford after 28 minutes, James managed just a single shot all game, while Watkins registered two assists on his first start of the season on Saturday, which may have made Leeds fans realise he would indeed be a great addition.

Watkins has been a dependable goal scorer since making the jump up into the Premier League, with 25 strikes in 74 top-flight outings – including 11 last season – compared to Bamford’s 20 in 76 games, which would suggest the Aston Villa ace could even be an upgrade on what Marsch currently has at Elland Road.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

It just takes a quick and simple search of Ollie Watkins on Twitter to see what McGilligan is talking about, as amid the rumours, a number of Leeds fans certainly don’t like the idea of them going after an England international who’s also a proven goalscorer in the top flight.
