Leeds United want to keep Jack Harrison at the club this season amid Premier League interest in their winger this summer.

That is according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton, who was speaking to GiveMeSport about the Whites’ potential transfer business going into the final weeks of the window.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Newcastle United have had a €40m (£33.7m) bid for Harrison’s services turned down this summer, with this falling short of the Elland Road side’s £40m valuation.

However, it seems that Newcastle may have moved onto other targets, with the club having had a bid of over £40m rejected for Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison earlier this month.

And Thornton believes that not only do Leeds not want to sell the winger, but he can’t see Harrison pushing for a move away from Elland Road, either.

He said: “Leeds don’t want to sell him, anyway. I’m not sure the player’s going to push for a move, I think he’s quite happy at Leeds as well.

“So, unless somebody comes in with a massive offer, I think he’ll stay at Elland Road.

“But it’s whether somebody’s prepared to maybe put a figure on [the negotiating table] that Leeds think, ‘yeah, we might be prepared to talk at that figure’. As things stand, I don’t see that happening.”

TIF Thoughts on Thornton’s comments…

We believe that Leeds fans will be delighted to hear that neither the club nor Harrison – who has been dubbed as “explosive” by Whites manager Jesse Marsch have any intention of leaving Elland Road this summer.

The 25-year-old scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 38 appearances for Leeds last season according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that the wide-man provides a significant amount of goal output for Marsch’s side.

Therefore, we believe that it is in both Leeds and Harrison’s interests for the player to stay put at Elland Road, as he is an integral cog in the Marsch system and remains a regular starter at the club when fit, while losing him on top of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha could undo all of the good work Leeds have already done in the transfer market.
