Leeds United are monitoring 25-year-old left-back Kai Wagner as Victor Orta looks to end this summer’s transfer window with more new faces.

This has been suggested by Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking on the Que Golazo YouTube channel about what could be in store for the Whites.

The German is currently playing his football out in the United States where he has just a matter of months remaining on his deal with Philadelphia Union.

It has been a busy summer of spending from Jesse Marsch’s side, with the arrivals of seven new faces for a total of just over £95m.

Only one of Leeds’ seven new recruits has been a defender this summer in Rasmus Kristensen, however, it seems as if the Yorkshire club may not be done there, with a new left-back believed to be on the agenda in the form of the Philadelphia defender.

Romano said: “It’s one of the names they are monitoring. We know that Leeds are always keeping an eye on American players and American talents, and so they are monitoring this boy, but at the moment, still nothing advanced, I’m told.

“Still nothing imminent, also because Leeds are really happy with the team they have.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

Marsch is currently enduring something of a crisis at left-back with the injury to Junior Firpo, which has seen Pascal Struijk fill in for the opening two weeks of the campaign.

And given Firpo is set to be out for at least another month, we think adding another left-back could be a wise decision given he did miss eight games due to injury last season, too.

Wagner, who has been hailed as a ‘fighter’, is yet to get his name on the scoresheet this season but has provided five assists in MLS across his 25 appearances and has shown a creative spark going forward with seven goal involvements last season (via Transfermarkt).

There may be some question marks over bringing in a player from the American league, however, Marsch has put a lot of trust in his recruitment of his fellow countrymen and players with MLS backgrounds, with the likes of Brenden Aaronson already impressing.
