According to Fabrizio Romano, Leeds United are still in the market for a striker before the window shuts, and while no signings are imminent, they remain interested in FC Zurich starlet Wilfried Gnonto.

The West Yorkshire outfit have started their season very well, currently sitting third in the Premier League table after their impressive 3-0 win last weekend. However, despite this good form and the rejuvenation of striker Rodrigo, they are still looking for another player up top.

It has recently been reported they are interested in a deal for Wolves forward Hwang Hee-chan, who played under manager Jesse Marsch at RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig. However, Romano has revealed that while they also like Gnonto, who impressed in the Swiss Super League last season, no deal is imminent.

Romano told Que Golazo: “They are looking for a potential opportunity if they find a new striker with Gnonto, who could be a possibility. But it’s not something imminent at the moment. It is something that I feel could go to the final days of the window if they find the right opportunity at the right price.”

TIF Thoughts on Gnonto to Leeds…

Even though Leeds have seen Rodrigo light up the Premier League so far this season with four goals in three games, they are in desperate need of depth in the striker position, which is why Gnonto would be perfect.

With star man Patrick Bamford out through injury again and Joe Gelhardt failing to impress in their last outing against Barnsley, adding a hot prospect like Gnonto could give the side the boost it needs, both immediately and in the future.

While there is no doubt Gnonto is a player for the years ahead, at just 18 years old, he picked up 10 goals and five assists in 36 games for FC Zurich last season and played across a multitude of positions, including striker, centre-forward, attacking midfield, and on either wing.

He is a versatile youngster who is starting for Italy’s Under-19 side and was developed at the Inter academy before his move to Zurich. He was also hailed by Italy manager Roberto Mancini as a player ‘who can do everything’ and has a ‘quality that we didn’t have before’.

Gnonto could be a very exciting signing for Leeds, as he would not demand consistent starting football at just 18 and has the chance to learn behind the likes of Bamford, who has shown is a top-quality Premier League striker.
