Dean Jones has claimed that he can see a deal happening between Leeds United and FC Zurich for striker Wilfried Gnonto before the transfer window closes.

We’ve now got under one week until the summer transfer window shuts, but Leeds’ business may not be over yet. According to the Daily Mail, the Yorkshire club are interested in teenage forward Gnonto, who has just one year left on his FC Zurich deal.

Indeed, manager Jesse Marsch has stated he and club ‘think highly of‘ the Italian starlet.

Jones had his say on the matter, telling GiveMeSport: I can see it happening. I don’t know that this necessarily changes the dynamic of their starting XI or anything like that. I think this is more of a development signing.”

Leeds have already had one of the busiest transfer windows in the Premier League, welcoming a total of seven new players. If the reports are anything to go by, however, seven could soon turn into eight before deadline day.

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

It’s interesting that Jones believes that this is a potential ‘development signing’ rather than one for the here and now, should Leeds complete a deal for Gnonto.

And we’d have to agree with that verdict, too. Gnonto is just 18 years old, and despite hitting double figures for goals last season, diving straight into the Premier League could be a jump too far for now.

What does benefit Marsch and take the pressure away from finding a goalscorer is the current form of Rodrigo, who started the new season with four goals in the first three Premier League games.

That form would surely help Gnonto settle in if he did make the move, too and allow him to settle in and eventually make his debut in the first team rather than being asked to make an instant impact.
