Leeds United could sign Ché Adams to potentially play up front with Patrick Bamford this season.
That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the Whites’ transfer plans heading into the final few weeks of the transfer window.
Last week, The Sun claimed that Leeds are hoping to strike a deal worth around £10m with Southampton for the transfer of Adams, though the south coast club would be hoping for slightly more.
The same report says that there is optimism a deal can be made for the 26-year-old striker, with Jesse Marsch desperate for cover for Patrick Bamford this season.
And O’Rourke believes that Adams could be brought to Elland Road to play alongside the current Whites striker, as well as playing up front on his own.
He said: “I’m sure Ché Adams does bring a lot to the table for Leeds United.
“He can play up front on his own, or he can play up front with another forward if that’s what Jesse Marsch sees him doing with Patrick Bamford as well.
“He’s got proven Premier League experience, which is also beneficial, I think, for Leeds right now.
“They want someone who can come in and hit the ground running and score some goals, and I think Ché Adams ticks a lot of boxes for them.”
TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…
We believe that signing Adams for between £10m-£15m would represent smart business from Leeds, with the club filling a gap in their squad for a second senior striker option.
The 19-time Scotland international scored eight goals and provided three assists in 33 Southampton appearances last season, according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that a deal in the aforementioned price bracket would probably be a fair sum.
And we believe that Adams would be a sensible signing for Leeds and Marsch which could help balance the workload and reliance on Bamford this season after an injury-ravaged campaign last term.
