Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Leeds United could have put a deal in place to sign Che Adams prior to their Premier League clash this weekend – but tips them to continue negotiations throughout the month.

According to The Sun, Leeds are confident that they can lure Adams away from Southampton this summer with a £10m bid.

Adams was an unused substitute against Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day as his side lost 4-1, which could be an indication that the Scottish international is not part of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s plans this season.

Leeds face Southampton this afternoon, and whilst speaking with GiveMeSport, Jones claimed that there could be a deal set in place forbidding Adams from playing in this fixture, but argued it makes more sense to drag proceedings out.

He said: “They could always put a deal in place and he’s not allowed to play against them but, ultimately, I think it makes sense to drag that out beyond this week.

“It doesn’t help anybody to have a situation like that lingering over a fixture, so I can totally see that being the case.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

It remains to be seen whether Adams is named in the Saints’ squad later today, but if there is a situation where he misses out this weekend, it could yet suggest that a transfer to Leeds is in the pipeline.

Adams being benched on the opening day and not even getting a single minute on the pitch could be a sign of things to come for him if he was to stay at Southampton, which could be deemed as a bold decision from Hasenhuttl after he featured 30 times in the top flight last season.

However, he could be a good option for Leeds because he has a steady goalscoring record, scoring seven times in the league last term, while he would be a senior option to provide healthy competition for Patrick Bamford in case he does not return to form following his injury troubles.
