Phil Hay, of The Athletic, was full of praise for Leeds United’s Mateusz Klich after the Yorkshire club came from behind to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It was the perfect start for Leeds, who opened the Premier League campaign with all three points, despite conceded the opening goal, courtesy of Daniel Podence inside just six minutes. Marsch’s side fought back, however, and goals from Rodrigo and an own goal by Rayan Ait-Nouri flipped the game on its head for the hosts.

It was not goalscorer Rodrigo who Hay instantly singled out post-match, though, with Klich instead the focus thanks to his positive display at Elland Road after coming off the bench in the 65th-minute. Just nine minutes after the midfielder’s introduction, the ball was in the back of the net, and Leeds were ahead.

Hay have a special mention to the substitute, taking to Twitter to say:

TIF Thoughts on Klich…

Brenden Aaronson was hailed as the star man for Leeds, but it looks like Hay took a fancy to Klich’s influence.

As Leeds prepare to travel to Southampton next time our for their second game of the Premier League season, Klich may well feel a know he deserves a starting place following the difference he made on the opening day.

As for Jesse Marsch, he will be pleased to be able to rely on those from the bench to make the necessary changes on the pitch. Having a strong squad, given how thick and fast Premier League games come, can be crucial as side’s look to reach their goals.

It will certainly be interesting to see what the American does next time out, regarding his starting team.
