Sky Sports contributor, Ben Dinnery, recently claimed he does not see Patrick Bamford pushing to start for Leeds United this weekend after returning from injury, but he could make the squad.

Despite losing their star striker in Bamford, the Yorkshire team have started the season exceptionally well which was exemplified by their last 3-0 win. This now means they are unbeaten through their first three games and sit third in the table.

A big reason for this is the stellar form of Rodrigo, who has filled in for Bamford and has picked up four goals in his first three games, and as a result, manager Jesse Marsch declared they do not need to rush Bamford back from his injury, despite him doing well.

Dinnery also believes that this means Bamford will struggle to find his way back into the first team this weekend but could feature in the match-day squad to get him some minutes ahead of his full return.

Dinnery said on the Premier FPL Injuries podcast, “I wouldn’t expect certainly Patrick Bamford to be pushing for a start, maybe an outside chance of making the matchday squad”. (1:12)

TIF Thoughts on Bamford’s return…

Before the season started, if you told Leeds fans they would be without their star striker at the beginning of the season, I’m sure they would not have backed Rodrigo to step in and produce the performances he has so far.

Luckily for the Whites, Rodrigo has found the best form of his Leeds career with Bamford out and has made it incredibly hard for Marsch to drop him. It may not seem like it, but it is also a blessing for Bamford, as he can now take his time recovering from another injury, rather than rushing back and re-injuring himself, which happened last season.

Leeds are in fine form, and if Bamford’s recovery goes to plan and he comes back fully fit while having Rodrigo in hot form, they will add a player to the attack who has proven he can score over 15 goals in the Premier League partnering their hot star. This could be a hugely exciting time for Leeds fans.
