There are only a few weeks left until the next football season starts and there is still so much that we do not know. The transfer window is yet to close, and this can drastically change the starting line-up of every team.

That does not mean that you are completely in the dark about what is to come. Last year gave us plenty to think about, so now would be the perfect time to make some predictions about the upcoming season. Here is everything that could happen in the 2022/23 football season.

Winners Of The Premier League

It is difficult to guess who may win the 2022/23 Premiere League without having seen any of the teams play yet. However, the past is a great indicator of things to come.

Manchester City is the clear favourite to win this season based on their triumphant finish last year, but that does not mean that they are guaranteed a spot at the top. If Leicester’s win in 2016 has proven anything, it is that the league title is open to anyone. On that topic, Leicester City still looks good as an outside shot at the title, and Liverpool has brought in some fresh legs by signing eighteen-year-old Calvin Ramsay. We will have a better idea about who is within reach of the top in a few weeks, but you can’t be blamed for backing Manchester City again until then.

Who Will Be Relegated?

Relegation is a harsh part of British football, yet is an important part, nonetheless. Whenever a new season starts, the three teams that are newly promoted to the Premiere League quickly become the fan favourites to become relegated the following season. It is an easy prediction to make, and that would mean that Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, and Fulham are most likely to get relegated this season.

However, not everything is set in stone. There were teams still in the Premier League that narrowly escaped relegation last year, and they may be on the chopping block again if they do not vastly improve. Teams like Southampton, Leeds United, Everton, and Aston Villa struggled to climb the table in their last few games, so you wouldn’t be out of line if you guessed that one of these teams was going to be relegated in the 2022/23 season.

Who Will Be Promoted?

There is more to English football than just the Premier League. Therefore, you should also be looking at who may be promoted from the Championship. Since Norwich City, Swansea, and Brentford took the place of those who were relegated, you will have to look elsewhere for potential candidates.

The clear favourites are the teams above who were relegated from the Premiere League last year; however, you should never underestimate how difficult it is for teams to bounce back after such a defeat. Both Huddersfield and Sheffield United missed out in the playoffs last season, so it makes sense that they too would have an outside chance at getting promoted. However, QPR, West Brom, and Cardiff City have all cultivated strong, Premiership level teams in the past. Perhaps it is time for them to recapture past glories. If you’re making bets on the teams, then make sure that you work out which one will be more likely to win you the best return when you make your choice. The Champions League

The Champions League is a more interesting topic to discuss. This is because you can look at it from the point of view of an English football fan, or from the perspective of someone that loves the European game.

In terms of the tournament, it is doubtful that anyone other than Barcelona is going to win this one. Although their rivals, Real Madrid, bested them in the tournament last year, it is incredibly difficult to write off the other kings of Spain. Barcelona may be facing some financial difficulties, but they have always managed to establish themselves as the greatest team in all of Europe. Since they lost out last season, it only makes sense that will come back fighting in the 2023 final.

On the topic of English teams, Liverpool should be the favourites here. They came second place in the Premier League last season, and their history shows that they are no stranger to pulling out a victory in Europe. If you are going to make any predictions about an English team winning the upcoming UEFA Champions League, Liverpool would be the team to pick.

The F.A Cup

As with the F. A cup, is Liverpool’s trophy to lose once again. They successfully beat Chelsea in penalties last round, so it only makes sense that these two teams would head the pack as firm favourites to win. However, these teams are not as clear-cut as you may think.

Arsenal has found its groove again since the departure of Arsene Wenger, and the first trophy they were able to win after a six-year trophy drought was the F.A cup in 2020. Although they finished fifth place in the league in 2022, it looks like they are ready to hit their peak again. Perhaps another win in the F.A cup final next year would prove that they are a team to be reckoned with once more.

Who Will Depart Early?

While we are all focused on who is coming into the fold right now thanks to the current transfer season, it is important to remember that some mainstays might be leaving in the coming months. Sadly, it looks like those partings may come as the result of a firing.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has been the manager of Southampton for the last four seasons, and in all four seasons, they have narrowly avoided relegation. As a result, it is no surprise that he is the bookie’s favourite for the first manager to be fired in the upcoming season. Do you think Hasenhuttl will be leaving? Or do you think it will be someone else? Only time will tell.

Summary

There is not long to wait until the football returns, and you will soon see if any of these predictions come to pass. Fortunately, the only thing that is certain is that 2022/23 is shaping up to be a fantastic season.
