Dave Vitty has claimed on the All Together Now podcast that Salomon Rondon isn’t a Premier League player, while also slamming Everton for their lack of striker arrivals.
Everton are yet to sufficiently replace last season’s top scorer, with Richarlison departing for £60m earlier in the transfer window, but the injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin should have really put a new striker at the top of the club’s priority list.
Instead, Frank Lampard and Farhad Moshiri have seemingly prioritised other positions, which has seen Rondon left as the only fit and available out-and-out striker at the club.
Vitty can’t believe that Everton have not brought in another striker and also doesn’t even see Rondon as a top-flight player.
He said: “We find ourselves here, not only with the Dominic Calvert-Lewin injury, but even if he was fully fit, I wouldn’t feel confident in terms of only having him, effectively, as our striking option.
Will Everton sign a new striker?
Yes!
No!
“Because let’s face it, Rondon isn’t a Premier League striking option. He’s having to make do at the moment, but that’s because we literally have nobody else.
“He’s not a Premier League player. He must have thought all of his birthdays had came at once when he got hauled back from China.
“It’s negligence, and we desperately need, not one, I think we need two striking options in the next 10 days or whatever it is.”
TIF Thoughts on Everton’s striker situation…
While it’s understandable that Vitty isn’t convinced by Rondon as he’s scored one top-flight goal since he joined Everton last season, he had spent three seasons playing in China and Russia and is also now 32 years old, so he perhaps shouldn’t be expecting too much from the Venezuelan.
However, his point about it being negligence from Everton is fair enough as apart from Rondon and the now-departed Richarlison, the last out-and-out striker Everton signed was Sandro Ramirez back during the 2017/18 season, who only managed to make 16 appearances during his tenure with the Toffees.
And with the club starting the season poorly, you feel that the club only have themselves to blame for the position they are in.
