Dean Jones has claimed on The Done Deal Show that midfielder Arthur has been offered to Everton this summer.

Everton managed to bring in Amadou Onana earlier in the window after releasing Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fabian Delph, although that still leaves them one body short in the middle of the pitch – which has seen Alex Iwobi transformed into a central midfielder thus far.

Therefore, it makes sense that they are thought to have links to Arthur, who has experience playing in La Liga, Serie A and the Champions League. According to reports, he is being offered around the Premier League and to the Toffees in particular.

Jones shed some light on this, claiming that Everton have indeed been offered the chance to sign Arthur, who was described as ‘very good’ by Argentina superstar Lionel Messi.

He said: “The thing that I’ve heard today [Tuesday] is that Arthur’s agents have been touting him around the Premier League again. Everton have been strongly linked in the last couple of days – that will be part of this, he will have been offered to them. But there are other clubs too that Arthur is being offered to from Juve.”

TIF Thoughts on the Arthur links…

While the thought of someone from a club such as Juventus with a boatload of Champions League experience could be the kind of player Everton need to elevate their side away from the threat of relegation, the Toffees have tried that before without it necessarily working out.

In the past, the Toffees have brought in the likes of James Rodriguez and Andre Gomes from bigger clubs on big wages, and they have failed to either stick around or make a lasting impact at the club and left them in this tricky financial situation they’ve been in for the last few transfer windows.

Therefore, they may be better off trying to land someone such as Conor Gallagher – perhaps as part of an Anthony Gordon deal – to help bolster their midfield with someone who’s got Premier League experience and with something to prove ahead of the World Cup, which may be less risky.
