Everton may look to sign Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus as a potential replacement for Anthony Gordon should the youth academy product end up leaving the club this summer.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the Toffees’ potential transfer business, during the final weeks of the window.

According to The Athletic, Everton have discussed a potential loan move for Kudus with Ajax this summer, with Frank Lampard looking to add to what he currently has in midfield at the moment.

The same report says that the 22-year-old, who has been hailed as “complete” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, seems to be open to the move, but the clubs have not reached an agreement over the deal as of yet.

And O’Rourke believes that Kudus could end up acting as a replacement to Gordon, who has been linked with moves to both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur this summer, but the transfer could rely on a domino effect involving Ajax winger Antony’s potential move to Manchester United falling into place.

O’Rourke said: “He’s somebody that they’re [Everton] trying to sign.

“He looks like a talented player, Kudus.

“Obviously, he’s been in and out of the Ajax team, so he’s got good pedigree, someone who’s going to add something in that final third as well, and might be somebody Everton would see as maybe being a potential replacement for Anthony Gordon if he does end up leaving for Chelsea.

“But it’s slightly complicated maybe by the fact that Man United are trying to sign Antony quite strongly from Ajax, so maybe Ajax are having second thoughts on this deal.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

We believe that Everton fans would be delighted if they could add Kudus to their midfield this season, with the youngster likely possessing the ability to become a regular in Frank Lampard’s side this season.

The 16-time Ghana international will likely be edging for a move away from Amsterdam this summer, with the midfielder only being given the opportunity to play 450 minutes for the senior side last season, though he did score and provide a solitary goal and assist, according to Transfermarkt.

Therefore, we believe that Lampard would be more willing to give Kudus opportunities at Goodison Park, meaning that the move could mutually benefit both Everton and the Ghana international.
