Everton are still working on a deal to bring Idrissa Gueye back to Goodison Park this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer guru has been speaking on the Que Golazo YouTube channel to discuss what could be in store for the Toffees in the final weeks of this summer’s window.

It is believed Everton have been working on a deal to bring the midfielder back to Merseyside from Paris Saint-Germain, with the Senegalese having departed back in 2019.

This comes off the back of Frank Lampard losing Abdoulaye Doucoure to injury at the weekend in their defeat against Aston Villa.

Despite having already spent over £32m to bring in Amadou Onana, it seems as if Lampard is still looking to bring extra reinforcements in the form of Gueye.

Romano said: “The deal is still on with Gueye and Everton. They are discussing with his agents, they had an agreement ready. It was 10 days ago, and then they had some problems to complete everything with Paris Saint-Germain, because Paris Saint-Germain are really tough in the negotiations this summer.

“The negotiation is still ongoing for Gueye. Let’s see if this week, Everton will try to complete everything.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

It has been a disappointing start to the new campaign for Frank Lampard’s side, so we would imagine they will accept new players in any position they can get.

However, with the recent injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the reported transfer interest in youngster Anthony Gordon, we think it is forwards that are needed the most.

There was a late onslaught from the Toffees late on in the game at the weekend, but they lacked real quality in front of goal that a proven forward could have provided.
