Journalist Dean Jones believes Everton need to find a way of replacing Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goals while he misses out through injury.
Jones was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest from Goodison Park heading into the final few weeks of the transfer window.
Calvert-Lewin’s knee injury was confirmed by Everton ahead of the club’s opening Premier League clash with Chelsea, with no timeframe being put on the striker’s return.
The 25-year-old struggled with injury last season, and following the Toffees’ sale of Brazilian striker Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, the club have been left short of No 9s this term.
And Jones believes that Everton will have to find cover for the striker in the summer before the window shuts on 1st September.
He said: “It’s a big blow for him, obviously. Calvert-Lewin’s one of their best players, so they have to replace it.
“Even if it’s a short-term absence – two or three weeks without Calvert-Lewin is too long, because suddenly you’ve missed out on two or three goals that would have earned you points.
“They have to bring somebody in sharpish that can fill the gap.”

We agree with Jones in the sense that we believe Everton will miss the 11-cap England international’s presence in the side this season, especially given their lack of strikers.
During the 2020/21 campaign – the last time Calvert-Lewin was fit for the best part of a season – the striker scored 21 goals and provided five assists in 39 appearances, suggesting that when he is able to play a regular run of games, he can be a lethal goalscorer for Frank Lampard’s side.
Therefore, we believe that if the former Sheffield United man is unlikely to be back on the pitch in the near future, Everton do need to find a striker who can replicate his goalscoring prowess, or they could potentially face another tangle with relegation this season.
