Everton could have a chance of securing the signing of Espanyol and Spain striker Raúl de Tomás if they put in a sizable offer to the La Liga club this summer.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the Toffees’ potential transfer business, heading into the final few weeks of the summer transfer window.

Frank Lampard is in desperate need of a striker this summer, with the club having sold last season’s top goalscorer Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur, whilst Dominic Calvert-Lewin has suffered a training injury, ruling him out of the opening games of the season.

This leaves the club’s only senior striker option as Salomón Rondón, meaning that Lampard will be crying out for the Everton board to sign another striker this summer.

And O’Rourke believes that if Everton can tie up a deal for de Tomás, who describes himself as a “technically gifted goal scorer”, he would be a good signing for the Toffees this summer.

“Yeah, a good signing for Everton if they were to get de Tomás.

“As you said, he’s been linked with Aston Villa already this summer.

“From Espanyol, a very good player who Espanyol don’t really want to lose, but would find it hard to turn down a sizable offer from.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments

We believe that Everton should be going all out to secure the signature of de Tomás this summer, with the club’s desperate need for a striker.

The 27-year-old, who is similar to Luis Suarez (FBref), scored 17 goals and provided three assists in 34 appearances last season according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that the striker is more than capable of finding the back of the net.

And those 17 goals could be what it takes to prevent Everton from being in a relegation battle similar to that of last season, and therefore we think the club should be doing everything they can to bring de Tomás to Goodison Park this summer.
