According to injury specialist Ben Dinnery, Everton could have their star defender Yerry Mina back for their opening game against Chelsea this weekend after a minor injury setback.
After a tough end to last season where they narrowly avoided relegation, Everton will be hoping to start the season off with a bang and in order to do so, they will need all hands on deck, especially their most crucial players.
With this in mind, fans will be elated to hear that their star defender, Mina, could be back and ready for the season’s kick-off against Chelsea this season, as Dinnery believes he could return to the side after picking up a minor injury during the preseason.
Dinnery told the Premier FPL Injuries YouTube channel, “He did miss out actually last weekend with an injury but that’s believed to be minor. We are expecting Yerry Mina back on a training pitches ahead of game week one, so fingers crossed with that one”. (9:36)
TIF Thoughts on Mina’s return…
The Toffees have a tough start to their season against Champions League hopefully Chelsea, and in order for them to get any sort of points from this game, they will their key stars ready to go.
For this reason, having Mina back for the game will please the fans and will give them hope that he can stay on the pitch more than last season when he only made 14 appearances across all competitions.
However, despite his injuries, he did show his class when he appeared for the Toffees by ranking in the 92nd percentile for aerial duels won, 77th for blocks, and 75th for clearances compared to other centre-backs across Europe’s top five leagues.
It is currently unknown if he will start, but Dinnery’s assessment and Frank Lampard’s pre-match press conference will fill fans with hope for what could be an even more disastrous season than the previous, we will have to wait and see.
