Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Ross Barkley’s future is ‘one to keep an eye on’ for Everton in this summer’s transfer window.
According to the Daily Mirror, Everton winger Anthony Gordon has been approached by Chelsea, and the Blues have made an offer in the region of £45m for the English winger – with the 21-year-old apparently open to an exit.
Meanwhile, Everton have been linked with Barkley this summer, and the 28-year-old midfielder has not been named in the matchday squad during Chelsea’s opening two Premier League fixtures, so this could be an indication of time in west London coming to a close.
Amid the links to Barkley, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that he could be involved in a deal that sees Gordon go the other way given Chelsea’s interest.
He said: “The Anthony Gordon situation, I wonder if Ross Barkley could potentially become involved in that deal in some way. I think that might be one to keep an eye on.”

Everton are seemingly keen on keeping Gordon at the club this summer as they have rejected a hefty bid of £45m for him, but if Chelsea come back in with an increased offer or use Barkley as a makeweight in the deal, it might be hard for them to turn it down.
Barkley, who has been hailed as a ‘diamond’, is seemingly out of favour at Chelsea, and with the midfielder having just one year remaining on his current contract at the club, this could be a good time for the Blues to offload him, especially if they can acquire Gordon as part of a deal.
However, Lampard has recently described Gordon as a ‘huge’ player for Everton, so even if Chelsea do come back with an improved bid, Everton may still reject it and attempt to sign Barkley on separate terms.
With the futures of both players uncertain, they are certainly worthy of keeping tabs on.
