Journalist Paul Brown has claimed that Everton might look to bring in a backup striker rather than someone to challenge Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Everton are one of the Premier League clubs that are interested in signing Ludovic Ajorque in this summer transfer window, but they face competition from Leicester City who are also keen on him.

Ajorque was in impressive form for Strasbourg last season in Ligue 1, the French striker found the back of the net 12 times and chipped in with eight assists in 36 league games.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin set to miss a period of fixtures due to injury, Brown spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that the Toffees are not necessarily looking to bring someone in who is going to put pressure or play alongside the English forward.

“They look more like Calvert-Lewin-type of players who Everton would be looking to sign maybe at a bargain rate.

“They could come on in a similar way that Rondon did, having some minutes when Calvert-Lewin is back or starting up front when he’s not available rather than someone who is going to put genuine pressure on him or play alongside him terribly much,” Brown said.

TIF Thoughts on Brown’s comments…

Everton are in a real crisis on the attacking front at the moment, in the opening fixture, it was Anthony Gordon who led the line, due to Richarlison being sold to Tottenham Hotspur and Calvert-Lewin’s injury woes.

Ajorque would be a good option for Everton as a backup striker to Calvert-Lewin because he is 6ft 6, so he is an areal threat meaning that the Toffees would not have to change their style of play if he was to play instead of the English forward.

The 28-year-old has also proven that he can score goals, which is something that would have caught the eye of Frank Lampard because Everton could really struggle for goals this season if Calvert-Lewin continues to suffer from injuries and they do not bring in another forward.
