Simon Phillips has claimed that striker Michy Batshuayi is ‘still wanted’ at Everton as the summer window nears its close.

The Chelsea striker has become an outcast at Stamford Bridge in recent times and hasn’t been part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad all season. And, with the end of the summer transfer window approaching, Batshuayi hasn’t got long left to complete a move.

According to Phillips, Everton could still be the club to offer Batshuayi a lifeline this summer. Phillips told GiveMeSport:

“I think that those are going to be some late moves. Batshuayi is obviously still wanted by Everton. But at the moment, they’ve got other targets, they’ve got other priorities there.

“So, he has got other teams interested, but it is quite quiet there at the moment in his camp, and nothing is close.”

TIF Thoughts on Phillips’ comments…

A lot could still happen in the remaining days of the summer transfer window, but the fact that Everton have just signed Neal Maupay from Brighton & Hove Albion could mean that another striker coming in has been put under question.

This could come as a major blow for Batshuayi, who may not get his move this summer, and, therefore, remain away from the pitch at Chelsea. The concerning point from Phillips’ comments is the fact that he claimed that ‘nothing is close’ for the forward.

Frank Lampard will be hoping to see his current squad start to perform as the transfer window comes to a close. With time still left in the transfer window, however, a lot could still happen at Goodison Park.
