Barry Allan has claimed that he does not feel that Dele Alli will start for Everton in the opening game of the season against Chelsea.

Dele Alli signed for Everton in January from Tottenham Hotspur but he has failed to have an impact since signing for the Merseyside club, after starting just one game in the second half of the Premier League season, where he failed to score or chip in with an assist.

Everton have signed just three players in this summer transfer window, and they have lost Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur, so Lampard might be looking to make some more additions before the window shuts.

With Alli failing to impress so far in an Everton shirt, Allan spoke on The All Together Now Everton Podcast and claimed that he has never looked like he is ready to start a game and could be an option in the second half against Chelsea this weekend.

(4:22) “Personally I don’t think he will go with Dele Alli, I don’t see how that works, I don’t think he has ever looked like he is ready to start a game for Everton unless he has really come on in pre-season, he may be an option for the second half,” Allan said.

TIF Thoughts on Allan’s comments…

Alli has struggled to get going in an Everton shirt under Frank Lampard, but the English manager might have seen something in pre-season that he likes, and might think that if he is given a run of games, then he could return to the form that he had in the early stages of his Spurs career, otherwise he would not have been a Toffees player in the first place.

However, Alli clearly did nothing to show Lampard that he deserved a place in the side last season, and if he has not changed his ways in pre-season then it will be difficult to see Alli get the nod on the opening day of the season.
