Podcaster Dan Cook has claimed he can’t see Ibrahim Sangare signing for Crystal Palace this summer.
There were reports back in May stating that Palace were keen on luring Sangare to the Premier League this summer, but there has been little progression on proceedings as far as a transfer to the Eagles is concerned.
Palace have made four signings so far and one of those was Cheick Doucoure from Lens, who occupies the defensive midfield role – the same position as Sangare.
And with Sangare being previously linked with a move to Palace, Cook spoke on the HLTCO podcast and claimed that he thinks the transfer rumour ‘has no legs’ and can’t see him moving to Selhurst Park this summer.
He said: “In relation to Sangare, I think it’s just something that has no legs, as far as I can see.
“He would cost an absolute bomb, PSV rate him incredibly highly, there are a lot of top clubs that have been keeping tabs on him for quite some time already, and there’s plenty of talk that PSV are going to try and get him tied down to a new long-term contract to ward off any interest.”
Do you think Palace will improve on last season?
TIF Thoughts on Cook’s comments…
Palace have just invested over £20m on Doucoure, so it would come as a surprise if they were to splash the cash on another player in that area when there are other positions that need upgrading, such as the creative midfielder role following Conor Gallagher’s departure from the club at the end of last term.
Sangare would likely cost the Eagles a large amount of money as he is just 24 years old and has three years remaining on his current contract, so Cook is likely to be right when he says that he can’t see him joining the Premier League side in this transfer window.
And given the initial links are a few months old now, the lack of activity since perhaps suggests Palace are not actively seeking his signature at present, which is perhaps wise given their summer dealings so far.
