Crystal Palace are the current frontrunners to bring in Conor Gallagher on loan after his successful time at the club last season, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

The Eagles have enjoyed a great start to their Premier League season, picking up four points from their first three games, even after losing their Player of the Season for last year in Gallagher.

However, it would now appear the club could see a return of the England international, as Bailey claims that if the player was to be made available, Palace would be the frontrunners and hold a huge advantage over the rest of the Premier League teams who want him.

Bailey told the Loaded Mag NUFC YouTube channel: “If he does become available on loan, I would suspect he may head back to Palace, where he became an England international, Player of the Year – and let’s not forget, Gallagher needs to be playing now to get to the World Cup.

“I think that would play into his thinking, where he can go and slot straight back into Palace, where he got his England call-up in the first place. So, I think they have a huge, huge advantage over every other club.”

TIF Thoughts on Gallagher to Palace…

So far this season, midfield duo Eberechi Eze and Cheick Doucoure have been impressive in the wake of Gallagher moving back to his parent club, but adding the 22-year-old back to their engine room could take the club even further forward.

Last season, Gallagher showed his potential at Palace, picking up eight goals and five assists in all competitions while earning his first England cap under Gareth Southgate, as well as a nomination for the Premier League’s Young Player of the Year award.

According to the Daily Mail, the club are even in for Gallagher on a permanent basis for around £35m, but again, this depends on whether Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will let him leave. But with their links to Frenkie de Jong ongoing, this could go down to the end of the window.

While there are other clubs like Newcastle United and Everton interested in the player, a return to south London would be the best move, in our view.

He has an existing relationship with the club and he played his best football as a professional under Patrick Vieira. He also has more of a certainty that he can challenge for a World Cup spot at Selhurst Park, so this deal feels like a no-brainer for the club and player if they can get it done.
