Podcaster Dan Cook recently spoke on the HLTCO podcast and shared his doubts over whether Crystal Palace can get a deal done for Boubakary Soumare.

After bringing in Cheick Doucoure and having Eberechi Eze come back to full fitness, Palace’s midfield is looking as strong as ever, and with recent links to the likes of Conor Gallagher and Soumare, it could get even stronger before the end of the window.

However, while both rumours are in their infancy, Cook recently stated his belief that Palace will struggle to get a deal done for Soumare amid Leicester’s unwillingness to sell, despite claims coming from Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge over a potential swoop.

Cook said on the HLTCO podcast: “Michael Bridge, the Sky Sports News journalist, has suggested that a move for 23-year-old Soumare at Leicester may well be on. I question whether this is just speculation, really, from Michael and any other outlets that might be covering it, purely because as much as we do actively seemingly want another central midfielder to bolster Patrick Vieira’s options in the middle of the park, I’m not 100% sure we can convince Leicester to sell; I do struggle to see that somehow.

“He’s under contract with the Foxes until 2026. He’s only been there a year and he was brought in for £18m. So, the prospect of them selling Soumare to us is just one which I don’t think necessarily adds up at this particular moment.”

TIF Thoughts on Soumare to Palace…

The south London outfit feel like they are just one piece away from their perfect midfield, and adding a star to start alongside Doucoure and Eze should be a priority for Patrick Vieira and Dougie Freedman.

However, it is not certain Soumare could be this man, as while he has been highly touted in the past, there must be a reason why he has so far been unable to show his talent at Leicester and failed to even make the bench in each of Leicester’s opening three games of the Premier League or their Carabao Cup game against Stockport.

There is no doubt Soumare is a talented young player, but alarm bells should be ringing for Palace considering his uninspiring career at Leicester so far. It could also be difficult for them to bring him in as star players Youri Tielemans and James Maddison are linked with moves away, so losing another player -while not as important a member of the squad – could put the Foxes off a potential deal.
