Crystal Palace could still make a move for Conor Gallagher in this summer’s transfer window if he does not get regular game time at Chelsea.

This has been suggested by the Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge who has been speaking on The Transfer Show podcast to discuss the Eagles’ plans for the remainder of the summer.

Having spent the 2021/22 campaign out on loan under Patrick Vieira’s guidance, Gallagher has backed himself to make an impression on Thomas Tuchel at his parent club.

Gallagher made 34 appearances for the south London side last season in the league alone, but on Saturday, the 22-year-old only came on for the dying moments of the game against Everton.

And with the World Cup coming up this winter, Bridge has suggested a lack of opportunities in Tuchel’s Chelsea side could open the door for another move for Gallagher with Palace and West Ham United both options:

“I would add them to another eight or 10 Premier League clubs, who still hold a firm interest in Conor Gallagher. I know, I spoke to Conor myself in Orlando, and he wants to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place.

“If Chelsea end up signing a couple more players, it’s World Cup season, you know, I think maybe he’d have to consider maybe another loan.

“And I think Palace, maybe West Ham as well, many others will look to put in an enquiry for him because I think he’s a very, very good player. So that’s never been ruled out as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Bridge’s comments…

We think there is little doubting that the large majority of Palace fans would love to see Gallagher back having impressed in last season’s loan spell with a return of eight goals and three assists in the league.

However, Bridge did also mention the possibility of West Ham being a potential landing spot if Gallagher is to look for a move away from Stamford Bridge.

And we would be interested to see what he would then choose if both Palace and West Ham were serious options for the midfielder.

On one hand he would have the comfort of returning to Selhurst Park where he knows what he would be getting, but the Hammers are able to boast European football – albeit the Europa Conference League.
