Crystal Palace may be able to persuade Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher to rejoin the club on loan this summer, after the England international spent last season playing at Selhurst Park.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the Eagles’ potential transfer business, heading into the final few weeks of the transfer window.

According to The Sun, Newcastle United could be preparing a bid for the £40m-rated Gallagher this season, although the same article suggests that Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is a “huge fan” of the 22-year-old and would ideally like to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

However, the Daily Mail reported last week that Palace were interested in bringing the Epsom-born midfielder back to Selhurst Park on another loan deal this summer, with Chelsea being linked with Barcelona and Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

And O’Rourke believes that Gallagher would be tempted on a return to Palace, if Patrick Vieira’s side made a move for him this summer.

“So yeah, Connor Gallagher, I’m sure if Crystal Palace do come back in for him, I’m sure he would give big thoughts to going back to the club because he knows the manager.

“He knows he has the trust of Patrick Vieira as well, and he knows the players as well, so it will be pretty easy to settle back in again, while if he moved somewhere else, he’d maybe be starting all over again.

“So, I’m sure that would be an advantage for Palace.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments

We believe that Palace fans would be delighted if Gallagher, who has previously been dubbed a “pressing machine” by Mark Duffy, made the move back to Selhurst Park this season, with the four-time England international being one of the Eagles’ key players last season.

The Chelsea academy star, who was dubbed as a ‘warrior’, made 34 appearances for Vieira’s side last season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists for the club according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that the young midfielder is ideally suited to that number eight role, and will only get better with more playing time.

Therefore, we believe that Gallagher would be a superb signing for Crystal Palace this summer, and would instil confidence in the Selhurst Park faithful that they can have another successful season this time around.
