Journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated that Arsenal ‘love’ Moussa Diaby and could look to sign him before the transfer window shuts.

After David Ornstein recently revealed in The Athletic that the Gunners view Pedro Neto as a priority target as a new winger, there has been much talk about that possible deal.

However, as explained in the article, that deal is complicated by the fact that he recently signed a new deal with Wolves and will therefore not come cheap.

While speaking about the forward on his YouTube channel, Romano also named Diaby as an alternative option to Neto, with both players under consideration at Arsenal.

The journalist explained: “Let’s see if they will be able to find a way or not for Pedro Neto – not the only name, let me also mention Moussa Diaby, a player they love at Arsenal.

“But at the same point, he is not a priority signing, also not an easy signing, because Bayer Leverkusen consider him not on the market at the moment.

“So they will need an important or crazy bid to sign Moussa Diaby, and at the moment, Diaby is negotiating a new contract with Bayer Leverkusen.”

TIF Thoughts on Moussa Diaby and Arsenal…

Diaby, who is most similar to Mohamed Salah (FBref), scored 17 goals and provided 14 assists in all competitions last season, so it’s easy to see why he might be on the Gunners’ transfer radar.

Still, as Romano makes clear, a deal will not be easy to complete due to his high valuation. Indeed, in a report by The Telegraph earlier this summer, Newcastle United were put off by Diaby’s £60m price tag.

As things stand, the Frenchman’s contract runs until 2025, but should he sign a new deal – amid his current negotiations – he would surely be out of reach for the time being.

This certainly looks like a difficult move to complete for Arsenal, but fans will no doubt be happy to hear Mikel Arteta and Edu are still working on some exciting moves before the end of the window.
