Journalist Charles Watts has said that he expects Hector Bellerin to leave Arsenal this summer and join Real Betis.

Last season, the right-back went out on loan to the Spanish club and enjoyed a good spell, even claiming an assist in the Copa Del Rey final (via Transfermarkt).

According to former Betis teammate Borja Iglesias, speaking with Estadio Deportivo (via The Sun), Bellerin was keen to make his loan a permanent switch earlier in the summer.

But at this late stage in the window, no move has materialised as yet. However, Watts how now stated that the defender is ‘pushing’ to get the deal sorted and expects it to eventually happen.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Watts said: “Bellerin’s absolutely pushing for it to be done. He’s always maintained that he only wants to really go back to Betis this summer.

“I would say if the window progresses, we get into the last few days and Betis doesn’t materialise, then maybe something else will happen, but I don’t know.

“His focus has very much been on Betis; it has been the whole summer. He wants to go there, Betis want to get him back. I think, personally, at some point, it will happen. I’d be surprised if it doesn’t, but right now, no deal is there to be done.”

TIF Thoughts on Hector Bellerin and Arsenal…

The Arsenal defender currently has just one year left on his contract, so Betis may well be hoping that he is allowed to leave for free as the Gunners have let other players do in the past – like when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the club by mutual consent.

However, if Edu and co are keen on getting a transfer fee, you wonder how much Betis would be willing to pay knowing that it is only a matter of time before the situation falls out of Arsenal’s control – and are able to snap the defender up for nothing.

With that in mind, the transfer seems to be at a bit of an impasse – with Watts explaining there is no deal to be done just yet. But if Bellerin really is pushing for a move, considering his contractual situation, perhaps he will eventually head back to Spain.
