Journalist Ben Jacobs has been speaking on The Done Deal Show about Arsenal’s interest in midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Arsenal have been one of the busiest clubs this summer transfer window, with five new faces arriving to help bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad and aid them in a renewed push for a spot inside the top four – something they missed out on last season.

However, they don’t appear to be stopping there, with Arteta claiming after their win against Crystal Palace last Friday (16:00) that the club were still working on some players, which could coincide with recent links to the Italian midfielder.

Jacobs has indeed claimed that an enquiry has been lodged by Arsenal for Tonali, but negotations have not progressed beyond this.

He said: “I think Arsenal have just made an enquiry about this – I’m not aware that anything is advanced as maybe social media are talking about. We know that Mikel Arteta still wants to make a move, and the battle will be in agreeing a price.”

It does appear that Arteta is still very keen to bolster his midfield department, with these links to Tonali recently emerging, while talk of a move for Youri Tielemans has been rife pretty much all summer.

Tonali would arrive as a more expensive signing, with reports claiming it could take a bid of around £46.5m for the Gunners to land the 22-year-old this summer, who still has three years left on his contract.

Coupled with the fact that Tielemans would only cost £25m and arrive Premier League-proven, it may be that the Belgian is the more attainable and realistic target – at least for this transfer window.
