Dean Jones has claimed on The Done Deal Show that he expects Arsenal to lodge bids for Ruben Neves and Pedro Neto before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The Gunners got the majority of their business done very early on, with Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Jesus, Marquinhos, Matt Turner and Fabio Vieira all joining before the start of the campaign, which has helped the side gel together and make a perfect start to the league.

However, following the departure of Nicolas Pepe on loan and the injury sustained by Mohamed Elneny, Arsenal could now be forced to act in the final few days of the transfer window, with links to Wolves duo Neves and Neto refusing to go away.

Jones was asked about Neves and Neto and whether he expects bids to be lodged for the Wolves duo.

He said: “They’re definitely going to make bids. I mean, they’ve got at least one gap, probably two gaps to fill in their squad, and now people like Pepe are gone, that has left a space for them to manoeuvre.

“The midfield gap was already open anyway and they were just deciding how to fill it – is it a young player that they’ve already got in the ranks, or is it somebody with a bit more experience? It looks like they’re probably going for a bit more experience.

Who would you rather Arsenal signed?

Neto!

Neto!

Neves!

Neves!

“So, we’ll have to wait and see, but I am surprised Arsenal have left it this late, I’m not going to lie, but they’ll at least have the discussion there to see if something can be done.”

TIF Thoughts on Arsenal’s need to fill gaps…

Despite enjoying a perfect start to the season, this would be the wrong time for Arsenal to sit back and think everything is in order for them to have a very good season and push for the top four, because with the likes of Zinchenko missing last weekend’s game due to injury, Thomas Partey nursing a muscle problem and now Elneny out, they aren’t far away from being down to the bare bones.

Therefore, splashing out what may be a lot of money – it would reportedly cost them a combined £120m to land both Neto and Neves – would likely be worth it to provide depth and competition for places as they look to fight on four fronts this season.

However, it would be very unlikely that Wolves would sanction the sale of both players in the final few days of the transfer window, therefore, Mikel Arteta may have to decide who is the bigger need for the squad in the wake of injuries and Pepe’s departure.
