Sunderland have now made an approach for Paris Saint-Germain youngster Edouard Michut ahead of the final week of the transfer window.

This has been suggested by reliable transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking about the Championship side’s interest in the 19-year-old on the Here We Go podcast.

The Black Cats have made a bright start to life back in the second tier, having picked up eight points from their opening five games.

Alex Neil’s approach to this summer’s window has been pretty clear, with faith shown in young prospects – having not signed anyone over the age of 24.

And it seems this could be set to continue as the Wearsiders open talks with the Ligue 1 champions over a potential deal for a player they view as a ‘dream’ addition this summer.

Romano said: “There is a proposal from Sunderland. They want to sign the player on a permanent deal and to bring him to the Championship from Paris Saint-Germain. So for Michut, [there] is a possibility to leave Paris Saint-Germain.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

Despite being just 19 years of age, Michut has already been handed some experience in PSG’s first team during Mauricio Pochettino’s reign in the capital.

Do you think Michut could blossom in the Championship?

No

Michut has played the majority of his football in PSG’s youth side as an attacking midfielder, but has shown the ability to play in a slightly deeper role when brought on by Pochettino for the senior side.

With this in mind, it would be interesting to see where manager Neil would choose to play him, with Dan Neil’s spot in the side potentially more vulnerable than the experienced Alex Pritchard.

However, there is interest elsewhere in the young prospect, with Scottish champions Celtic already having thrown their hat into the ring for the midfielder earlier this summer.
