Joe Buck has named Adam Armstrong in a list of strikers that Sunderland could sign to bolster their attacking options.

Alex Neil has already drafted in Ellis Simms for a season-long loan this summer and the Everton striker has hit the ground running at the Stadium of Light scoring three goals in his first two appearances for the club.

Last season’s top scorer Ross Stewart, who netted 26 times, has also been quick off the mark in the Championship notching two goals and an assist in the first three fixtures.

However, beyond that pair the Scottish manager is lacking in alternatives and Buck feels the Black Cats could make a move for Adam Armstrong.

Writing for the Sunderland Echo Buck said:

‘After moving to St Mary’s for £15m last summer, Armstrong managed just two league goals last season as Southampton slumped to a 15th place finish.

‘A summer upheaval at the club means that the former Newcastle United youngster could be allowed to leave on loan this summer.’

TIF’s Thoughts on Buck’s comments…

Will Sunderland avoid relegation?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Neil has said that the club will be active once again in the transfer market and he could very well decide to enhance his striking options considering he prefers to play with two strikers.

Armstrong has scored 56 times in the Championship in 186 appearances with half of that total and a further five assists coming in the 2020/21 campaign with Blackburn which saw him earn a £15m move to the Saints last summer.

He would be a superb addition and the south coast side are reportedly open to sending the 25-year-old out on loan although it is said that he would rather a switch to another Premier League outfit rather than dropping down a division.
