Tottenham Hotspur will now keep an eye on the market to potentially add another centre-back to Antonio Conte’s options, according to Charlie Eccleshare.

The reliable Spurs journalist has been speaking on the latest episode of The View From The Lane podcast having recently returned from Spurs’ South Korean tour.

It has been a busy summer of transfers for the north London club so far with six new faces in through the doors and now suggestions Spurs are going to add more.

One of the main goals this summer was to bring in a new centre-back with a big-money addition like Alessandro Bastoni or Josko Gvardiol reported as their main targets.

However, they did not dwell on missing out on the Inter Milan centre-back as they brought in Clement Lenglet on loan, but it seems he may not be the last centre-back arriving this summer:

(13:15) “And the sense has always been, you know, with the centre-back, they’ve got Lenglet in, so they’re not bent over a barrel, they don’t have to sign a left-sided centre-back.

“But obviously if, in the next month or so, that did present itself, then I’m sure they’d love to strengthen there as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Eccleshare’s comments…

We do think Spurs could do with another centre-back this summer with the likes of Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon both linked with departures at some point in the coming weeks.

Do Spurs need another centre-back this summer?

Conte has already been handed a warning as to how easily his plans can be dented with Ben Davies picking up an injury in their latest pre-season friendly against Sevilla.

Although the Welshman is expected to return for the Premier League opener, it just shows how easily Conte’s side could come under pressure and adding another centre-back would certainly do no harm.
