Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is likely to still want another centre-back brought through the doors at Hotspur Way this summer.

This is according to the journalist Pete O’Rourke, who has been speaking to This Is Futbol about the north Londoners’ transfer plans for the remaining weeks of the window.

Just last week, Spurs confirmed the signing of the 27-year-old centre-back, Clement Lenglet, on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona.

However, the Lilywhites continue to be linked with further potential additions at centre-back with the Sevilla man, Jules Kounde, the latest to be linked with Antonio Conte’s side.

Spurs have been one of the busier sides this summer with five signings already in, but with the likes of Joe Rodon being linked with an exit, O’Rourke believes Conte will be eyeing more defensive reassurance if more players leave:

I think if that was to happen [centre-backs sold], I think Antonio Conte would like another central defender in just to provide cover.

Lenglet does help fill that problem position of left-sided centre-half, but I still think maybe Tottenham’s business could be decided by outgoings.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Spurs have begun to build up some depth to their squad this summer and defence is certainly an area which has been targetted by Fabio Paratici.

Do Spurs need another CB this summer?

Yes

No

No

Ben Davies now has Lenglet for competition at left-sided centre-back, Cristian Romero will have Davinson Sanchez as cover, however, Eric Dier is, currently, the only central centre-back in Conte’s squad.

Dier had a really impressive 2021/22 campaign for Spurs, however, with a busy 2022/23 schedule coming up, we think providing him with some direct competition/cover will only benefit him and Spurs over the course of the season.
