Tottenham Hotspur director of football, Fabio Paratici, has a strong liking in the young centre-back Marc Guehi this summer.
This has been suggested by the reliable Spurs correspondent Jack Pitt-Brooke who has been speaking all things transfer related on the Last Word On Spurs YouTube channel.
Spurs have been in the market for centre-backs this summer but saw their search for Alessandro Bastoni go cold with the player now set to remain at Inter Milan.
With their pursuit of the Italian fall flat, Spurs secured the loan signing of the Barcelona ace Clement Lenglet who has now begun training with his new side.
However, there are reports suggesting Spurs may now be looking at the market to add another centre-back and – although unlikely – Paratici is believed to be a huge fan of Guehi:
“So Guehi they really like. Paratici definitely really likes Mark Guehi. The problem is and you know, there’s a guy you know, he’s young, English, homegrown, plays for England, can play across the backline. You know, there’s lot of ups.
“I think he’s a fantastic player, Guehi. He has a lot of upside to him. But he’s got four years left on his Crystal Palace contract. Crystal Palace you know don’t get pushed around to somebody who wants their players. Palace has got absolutely no incentive to sell him for anything short of crazy money.”
TIF Thoughts on Pitt-Brooke’s comments…
The signing of Guehi does feel incredibly unlikely with Crystal Palace sitting in a strong position over their 22-year-old given he still has four years left on his deal.
Do Spurs need another centre-back this summer?
Spurs have spent fairly big this summer already, so there will be question marks over who much more they’re willing to splash on a potential centre-back arrival, but this may also depend on what deals may become available.
