Newcastle United would be willing to listen to offers this summer for their winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

This has been suggested by transfer guru Alex Crook, who has been speaking on TalkSport about the Toon’s hopes to bring in another winger.

According to reports, a new right-winger is high up on Newcastle’s radar this summer, with Moussa Diaby believed to be their main target going into the transfer window.

Meanwhile, there have been reports of Tottenham Hotspur holding an interest in Saint-Maximin this summer, with director of football Fabio Paratici said to be a big fan.

And as the Toon continue to look for attacking upgrades this summer, Crook believes selling the winger to bring in some funds could be an option:

“They want another wide player as well, maybe because they could be open to offers for Allan Saint-Maximin,” said Crook, to which co-host Scott Minto rushed to slam this idea and hail Saint-Maximin: “[He’s] someone who you know what he does in a Newcastle shirt.

“He’s a fan favourite. He can almost be a leader in that team, certainly one of them as well. So I don’t get that one.”

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

It would certainly be a big surprise if the Frenchman was to depart this summer given he has been such an influential player in Newcastle’s recent seasons.

No

And given that Saint-Maxmin typically operates from the left wing, we do not think it would make much sense to sell him in order to fund a right-winger, as it almost just shifts the problem onto the other side of the pitch.

Also, with the pre-season revival of Miguel Almiron this summer, it could well be that the need for a right-winger is now less of a pressing matter, meaning the sale of Saint-Maximin may not be as urgent.
