Newcastle United target Moussa Diaby is believed to have been left flattered by the reported interest from the Toon.
This is what Dean Jones has suggested when providing the latest transfer insights on the Ranks FC podcast as the Magpies now look to add attacking options.
Reports claimed the French winger was the main man on Dan Ashworth’s radar this summer with a club-record bid reported to be in the works for the Bayer Leverkusen ace.
However, any hope of a move for Diaby now seems to be firmly dismissed with the recent quotes from the 23-year-old who has stated he will remain with the Bundesliga side.
But Jones believes the Frenchman was, in fact, incredibly flattered by Newcastle’s approach and it was something which may have appealed to Diaby:
(20:00) “I think he’s quite excited about it [Leverkusen’s season ahead], from what I was told. Like someone at Newcastle has said to me, I think, you know, Diaby’s flattered by it, but like it’s probably the worst time that they could have come in for him because he feels like they’re gonna have a really good season next year.”
TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…
We think it will be really intriguing to see what Newcastle do to cover this requirement for a new winger in the final weeks of this summer’s window.
Should NUFC wait until next summer for Diaby?
Yes
No
There has also been links to the likes of Jack Harrison who has operated from the right-wing in the past and is believed to be on the Toon’s radar.
However, the ‘astonishing’ winger currently has two years remaining on his Leverkusen deal, so if he does not extend his stay, we will be interested to see if this opens the door for Newcastle with the Frenchman clearly intrigued by the possibility.
