Arsenal target Youri Tielemans could now demand a move away from Leicester City with talks set to take place this week with Brendan Rodgers.
This has been suggested by journalist Ben Jacobs who has been speaking on the Football Terrace’s Done Deal Show with a focus on the Belgian’s future.
Reports have strongly linked the Gunners with a potential swoop for the Leicester midfielder with Jacobs suggesting Edu has already been in contact with the player’s agent.
Leicester are in a sticky situation with the midfielder given he has just one year now remaining on his current deal but there is no suggestion he is willing to renew.
Jacobs has suggested Tielemans has always hoped of joining the Gunners this summer and there is a belief this week could prove pivotal for his future:
(48:30) “And I think that Tielemans has a big decision to make because he doesn’t want to stay at Leicester. That is my understanding on the situation.
“And he’ll have further talks reiterating that to Brendan Rodgers this week. Leicester would love him to sign a short-term contract and then the transfer fee rockets up. But I think that in the same way, that if another club outside of Arsenal bids for Tielemans, it will suddenly spark a flurry of bids from various people that are interested.”
TIF Thoughts on Jacobs’ comments…
Given the situation Leicester are in with Tielemans’ contract and his reported desire to join the Gunners, this does feel as if it could be a relatively easy deal for Arsenal to complete.
Do Arsenal need Tielemans this summer?
However, we think it would be reliant on the Belgian refusing to put pen to paper on a contract extension which would leave the Foxes in danger of losing him for nothing in the coming year.
Rodgers is yet to see any players come through the door this summer so we do wonder whether Leicester may now be willing to see Tielemans depart to help fund their window?
