Arsenal do have the Villarreal centre-back, Pau Torres, on their radar this summer amid reports over Gabriel’s future in north London.
This has been suggested by the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano who has been speaking on the latest episode of the Here We Go podcast.
The deal for the Dutch defender is expected to be worth in the region of £68m which leaves the Italian side with a hefty bag of money to spend on suitable replacement(s).
With the reports surrounding the future of the Brazilian’s future at the Emirates Stadium, Romano highlighted their potential interest in the Spaniard:
(5:10) “Many, many clubs in for Gabriel Magalhaes. It’s not going to be an easy one because Arsenal have no intention to sell him but many clubs are tracking this deal.
“And keep an eye on the centre-back domino also on Pau Torres because he’s always been in the list at Chelsea not as priority but always been in the list.”
“Let’s see what happens also with Arsenal for Pau Torres because in case some top club will arrive for Gabriel could be an option for Arsenal.”
TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…
Would Torres be a suitable Gabriel replacement?
However, we are not entirely convinced Arsenal fans would be happy with this potential replacement with their Brazilian playing a big role in their defence last season.
Gabriel racked up 35 appearances in the Premier League alone across the 2021/22 campaign and given he is clearly a big part of Mikel Arteta’s plans, surely it would take a huge bid to prise him away from Arsenal.
