Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes Ivan Perisic will be a massive addition to the Tottenham Hotspur squad for the upcoming 2022/23 campaign.

Writing in his latest column for Sportskeeda, Merson has hailed the addition of the Croatian left wing-back and thinks he will be one of the surprise packages of the season.

Spurs are acting impressively in this summer window with five – soon to be six – additions already through the door at Hotspur Way.

However, it appears Perisic’s arrival is the one which is catching a lot of attention with the experienced Croatian set to rival Ryan Sessegnon for the starting spot in Antonio Conte’s XI.

Perisic is currently recovering from the injury issue which he brought over from Italy, but it seems Merson is already expecting big things from the 33-year-old:

“I keep going on and on about this, but I’m a massive fan of Ivan Perisic. This guy works as hard as anyone and has the talent to hold his ground against some of the best players in the world – that is some recipe for a player,” Merson wrote.

“He’s an international footballer who works as hard as someone who has come from non-league football into the big leagues, indicating that he’s got the work-ethic to complement his wonderful natural ability.

“Perisic has played for multiple big teams across Europe’s top five leagues and remains a key player for Croatia, so I expect him to be a huge hit for Tottenham.”

TIF Thoughts on Merson’s comments…

We have to agree with Merson on this occasion. We think the addition of Perisic is a great coup from the Lilywhites for a number of reasons.

The Croatian is coming into the 2022/23 campaign off a seriously impressive season with Inter and has been able to join Spurs as a free agent.

It is believed Spurs are not paying through the nose on wages and with young Sessegnon likely to be the long-term vision at left wing-back, this is a great opportunity for the Englishman to learn and seriously develop with Perisic on hand to advise.
