Journalist Jonny McFarlane has provided an update on Rangers’ apparently troubling pursuit of Antonio Colak.

The Rangers Review writer was speaking on the site’s YouTube channel amid reports that the Gers have agreed to a £1.8m deal for the PAOK striker.

The Daily Record claimed that the Croatian was keen on a move to Glasgow although PAOK were unwilling to waiver from their £2.6m asking price but the Gers appear to have come to a compromise.

However, McFarlane previously revealed (2:24) that a deal is yet to be signed off by the Greek outfit in what was described to the reporter as a ‘bizarre’ situation.

PAOK manager Razvan Lucescu hinted that the club would need to find a replacement before sanctioning a deal and that seems to be the impression of McFarlane regarding the situation.

Do Rangers need another striker?

(3:57)”There was stories coming out of Greece saying oh no it will take a third bid of €2.7m to get this over the line. I was told that’s nonsense.

“You’re waiting for PAOK to just hit the ok button on the deal and then finalise it.

“I fully expect that to happen once they tie up a new signing, as to how long Rangers will wait for that I’m not sure.”

How well do you remember where Rangers' signings came in from down the years? Take our quiz to find out! First up, Carlos Pena was the Gers' most expensive arrival during the summer of 2017, but where did he join from?

While it will clearly be a frustrating situation for the Ibrox officials, confidence must be growing that an agreement can be reached.

The three-cap Croatia ace appears to have left a lasting impression in Glasgow having scored twice against the Light Blues in a Champions League qualifier last summer.

During his loan at Malmo last season he averaged near enough a goal every two games and a former ace of the Swedish club Daniel Larsson told the Daily Record he would be a ‘huge success’ in Glasgow but Ross Wilson and his recruitment team could yet walk away from a deal if Colak’s current employers don’t get someone in through the door promptly.
