Journalist Jonny McFarlane revealed he is very excited about the prospect of Rangers bringing in Turkish starlet Ridvan Yilmaz this summer from Besiktas.

The Scottish giants recently lost their star man Calvin Bassey to Ajax this summer but now look to be cashing in on their transfer funds with the potential signing of Yilmaz from the Turkish Super Lig.

While he might not be a household name outside of Besiktas fans, McFarlane stated his excitement over the transfer and believes Yilmaz can break free of the history of Turkish players struggling in the SPFL and has a lot of potential.

McFarlane said on the Rangers Review, “I’m really, really excited about the potential of this one [Ridvan Yilmaz]. If this can get over the line, I think this could be a terrific move.

“21, you know Turkish players sometimes have had a history of struggling a little bit in terms of moving away from their home country. But I think more and more recently, they’ve shown quite a lot of adaptability in general.” (9:51)

How well do you remember where Rangers' signings came in from down the years? Take our quiz to find out! First up, Carlos Pena was the Gers' most expensive arrival during the summer of 2017, but where did he join from?

TIF Thoughts on Yilmaz to Rangers…

While the left-back is only 21 years old and is a raw talent, he showed his potential last season with Besiktas after bagging three goals and four assists in the Super Lig while averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 1.1 dribbles, 0.8 key passes, and 1.1 long balls per game (via Whoscored).

It was reported Rangers could make a £4m bid for the player, which is just a dent on the £19m they received from Ajax for Bassey. This means while they can secure a young and upcoming defender in Yilmaz, they would still have enough to bring in one or even two more players this summer to bolster their squad further.
