Rabbi Matondo has caught the eye of journalist Joshua Barrie for his showing in a pre-season friendly.

The Gers welcomed Premier League heavyweights Tottenham Hotspur to Ibrox this afternoon and the Welsh winger provided the assist for the game’s opening goal on 24 minutes.

He picked out fellow new signing Antonio Colak as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side took the lead and on his first start for his new side it prompted Barrie to take to Twitter during the game with the following comment:

TIF Thoughts on Matondo and Rangers…

The Welsh winger scored in his first game for the Glasgow giants during the 3-1 win over West Ham in the week and he already appears to be gaining admirers following his €3m (£2.5m) switch to Scotland.

The versatile former Manchester City academy star played on the right-hand side which is opposite to where he found himself for much of last season as he appeared largely on the left flank during an encouraging loan spell at Cercle Brugge that produced 12 goal contributions in 27 appearances and attracted attention from a host of clubs including Brentford, Leeds, Nottingham Forest and a trio of Ligue 1 sides (BILD) who Ross Wilson beat to his signature.

Given Ryan Kent’s current contract situation he could yet be called upon to play on the left and it doesn’t appear that would affect him as the 11-cap Wales ace seems to be quickly acclimatising to life with last season’s Europa League finalists.

Still only 21 he could prove to be a real handful for opposing defences in the Scottish Premiership and could well be one to watch this season as GVB looks to regain the league title.
