According to journalist Joshua Barrie, new signing Tom Lawrence is exactly what Rangers need ahead of next season as he would add goals and be an effective signing.

After narrowly missing out on the Scottish Premier League title last season, the Gers have looked to improve their squad this summer by turning to former Derby star midfielder Lawrence.

Barrie recently revealed on the latest Rangers Review video that he believes he can bring a lot of goals to the side as he is a high-volume shooter and his style will fit the football wanted by manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

He said: “I think he’s very much someone who could fill that No 10 [role] domestically. He’s different to Aribo.

“I don’t think he’s as good a player as Aribo, but what he probably is going to be is quite effective domestically, because [he is] a really high-volume shooter and I think that suits Van Bronckhorst football.

“I think he’s someone that would just come in and add goals – and that’s what Rangers need.”

TIF Thoughts on Lawrence to Rangers…

The Scottish giants look to be losing one of their promising attacking youngsters in Joe Aribo to Southampton and now desperately need to replace his output, which Lawrence can definitely do next season as he has 116 goals and assists across his career.

Barrie mentioned that he can bring goals, which is absolutely correct as the 28-year-old bagged 11 goals and five assists in the Championship last season while averaging 2.7 shots, 1.4 shots, 1.2 dribbles, and 1.2 long balls per game with 82.7% passing accuracy on 31.6 average passes per game, according to Whoscored.

It looks like Lawrence has picked Rangers over Championship side Sheffield United and will be joining the Gers on a free deal after his contract at Pride Park expired earlier in the window. Picking up a proven goalscorer in English football for a free deal is a steal for Rangers and he surely plays a big part in their mission to reach the top of the SPFL again.
